VW takes to the water

VW takes to the water

The option of matchingthe new VW TDi diesel is proving a popular one for Rayglass’s top-selling Legend 2500.
Scott Little, Rayglass Boats’ sales and marketing manager, says the new V6 diesel has much to recommend it.
“The new VW is smaller and lighter and has a much lower profile than most other diesel engines,” he says. “Even though it produces a powerful 265hp, its small size and low profile means there is absolutely no engine box to intrude into the cockpit at all.”
Although the VW engine has an incredible amount of torque, it is also very economical to run and, being a common rail engine, is also very quiet and smooth.
Little says the Rayglass 2500/VW combination means owners can cruise at 30 knots while using only 30 litres of diesel per hour.
“At trolling speeds, say 7 knots, the VW-powered 2500 uses an incredibly miserly 2 litres per hour. With the 2500’s standard 300-litre fuel tank, that means you can troll for more than 1000 nautical miles before needing to top up!”
For those who like to travel a little quicker, the high performance VW TDi, which is connected to a Mercruiser Bravo 3 leg swinging counter-rotating propellers, will give a top speed of around 40 knots.
The new VW, which is the same diesel engine used in vehicles such as the VW Touareg and Audi’s top-of-the-line Q5, also has a reputation for being very reliable.
“Combine that super reliability with the high performance, high torque, low fuel consumption and low profile,” says Little. “And it is no wonder that many of customers are seeing the Rayglass 2500 and VW diesel engine as the ultimate trailer boat package.”
The new Rayglass 2500/VW Tdi diesel combination is now available directly from the Rayglass showroom in Mt Wellington or from any of the company’s nationwide network of dealers.
