Carp Record Breaks The 100lb barrierThe first ever 100lb-plus carp has been caught by an Austrian angler fishing in Hungary.
Roman Hanke tempted the massive 10lb 4oz mirror carp from Euro-Aqua Fishery – a venue that had been tipped up as a potential record breaker. The fish, caught on June 5th, measured 113cm long and fell for a birdfood boilie and the commercially run venue, which is a former gravel pit near to the massive Lake Balaton. A week’s fishing there costs 700 Euros.
The capture means that English anglers lose their grip on the world carp record, which has been jointly held by Buckinghamshire roofer Ambrose Smith and John Bryan from Waltham Abbey with a 99lb fish from Le Graviers Fishery in Dijon, France.
Weils Disease Spray For Anglers
Midlander Hadrian Garner is launching a product aimed at educating the angling community on how to avoid contracting Weils disease, after a fishing mad family member contracted it.
Freshwater fishermen are especially susceptible to the condition, which is spread through rat’s urine at the water’s edge. If the disease, also called Leptospirosis, enters the bloodstream through a cut or is ingested, it can be fatal, as it was in the case of double Olympic rowing champion Andy Homes MBE.

Biggest Irish Trout For 118 yearsThe largest trout caught in Ireland for over a century has been boated on the country’s Lough Corrib.
Weighed at a staggering 25lb 2oz, the huge ferox is a new record for the venue in the west of Ireland, beating the previous best for the lough by over 3lb.
The monster brown trout was hooked not far from the biggest island in the 170 square kilometer water by visiting Welshman Ceri Jones, after it fell for a trolled roach deadbait.
As well as setting a new best for Corrib, the fish is the largest specimen caught in Ireland for 118 years – the biggest before that and the heaviest ever recorded in Ireland being a 26lb fish banked from Lough Ennell in the 1800s.
UK’s Big Girl At 62lb on the nose, this huge specimen is the biggest known carp in the UK, and its latest trip to the bank left its captor ‘completely stunned’.
South East angler Danny Harmer caught the fish, known as the ‘Big Girl’, during a four-day session at Kent’s Elphicks Fisheries, targeting the specimen’s of the venue’s North Lake.
The self-employed builder found a clean area at the bottom of a drop off towards the middle of the lake in 10 feet of water and spodded in a couple of kilos of particles..
Quiet for the first two nights, Danny continued introducing his mix in the same quantity ever day, over which he present a single 15mm Cell bottom bait – an approach that eventually paid off big time.
